The Student Union Norway Fjord Trip
After a long over night bus ride we arrived in Bergen just in time for breakfast at the fish markets. Probably the best and most expensive breakfast iv ever had, well worth it though!
We took the tram up the mountain to enjoy this view of Bergen
Putting all our names into the time capsule, well, we think that's what it was!
Ferry ride from Bergen to a different Fjord
Our camp for the next few nights
Hike up the mountain to a river
Snowball fight!
Adventure day! we hiked up this glacier. In teams of about 10 we were harnessed and connected to each other with rope, so if someone fell through the ice we were all able to hold each other up. We had spikes on our boots called crampons to grip the ice.
We wanted to swim in one of these little pools, but there is the danger of the hold having a "plug hole", which is where the bottom of the hole is blocked by snow, and if we jump in it we might "unplug" it and get sucked into a hole deep in the glacier!
We went as far up the glacier as we could. Once we got closer to the top the surface became less icy and more covered in snow. To go any further we would need different equipment; longer ropes so were are further apart in case someone falls through the snow into an ice crevice.
Crampons
Getting ready to kayak back along the lake
The lake was semi frozen, the icicles were like long rods.
Brent decided to go for a swim... so naturally we all had to!
